Lever Pulley Reprap - Parts Arriving
After quite a few months planning on what to get for this Reprap, we have finally purchased the parts we need. Now they are slowly starting to trickle in, with the plastic pieces being one of the first to arrive.
These plastic pieces were bought from Amazon, and upon initial inspection, definitely need some cleaning up. In my past experience with 3D printers, a straight-edge razor works the best with this kind of plastic (ABS plastic, or the same plastic LEGOs are built out of).
What was nice about this order though, is that it came with the linear and ball bearings that we also needed for the printer.
Something that I can foresee being tricky is getting the rods cut at the right length. All of the specs for the printer will be the same as the Reprap Prusa Mendel i2, with a few exceptions. One being that we are not going to be using the standard print bed size. We are going to use a 8.4" x 12.6" heatbed. This complicates things as we cannot use any kit found online, and instead will have to cut everything bed- and frame-related custom.
The other feature that we hope to have by time it is finished is dual extrustion. This will enable us to print in a couple different colors and possibly even a couple different materials in one print.
More updates to come.
